JUDGE ORDERS NO DRIVING
Three drivers lost their licenses following appearances in Provincial Court in Princeton on June 14 on impaired driving charges.
Joel Spedding, age 21, was apprehended on May 5, 2006, after a police constable saw Spedding drinking at a local pub. Later the same police officer saw Spedding driving erratically in Princeton. Spedding was pulled over, showed signs of impairment, and was taken for a breath test where readings of .200 were obtained.
Spedding entered a guilty plea. Judge Sinclair ordered the minimum $600 fine and one year prohibition.
Georgina Longstaff was arrested on April 5, 2007, following an incident at a private club in Princeton. An ambulance attendant assisting her husband advised police she appeared intoxicated and had driven away from the club. A police officer saw her later and stopped her, then arrested her after noting signs of impairment. A breath test registered .160 blood alcohol.
Longstaff entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to pay a $600 fine and is prohibited from driving for one year.
Eric Brown, a 58 year old Princeton resident, entered guilty pleas to two charges of driving with over .08 blood alcohol. He was arrested first on February 16, 2007, when police were advised of what appeared to be a drunk driver on the highway. Readings of .180 were obtained on a breath test.
Brown¹s second arrest occurred March 30, when Brown was pulled over. He was not supposed to be driving, as he had been suspended. A breath test registered a reading of .140 on that occasion.
Brown was sentenced to pay $1,200 in fines and is prohibited from driving for two years. In addition, he will serve a probation in which he is to immediately go to a detox centre for treatment followed by a three month rehabilitation.
JUDGE ISSUES PEACE BOND
A peace bond was agreed to when Travis Hogg appeared in Provincial Court on June 14. He had been charged in Kelowna with uttering threats. He will serve a six month peace bond with the condition he has no contact with his former girlfriend nor her new boyfriend. He is restricted from possessing firearms except during hunting season when he is permitted to hunt while in company of his father.
Michael Neumann of Princeton agreed to a $500 peace bond for one year after uttering threats to a police officer. His five guns will be kept in police custody until the year is up and Neumann has renewed his gun permit and registration.
TWO RELEASED ON BAIL
Kevin J. Reinhardt appeared in custody in Provincial Court in Princeton on June 14.
He was released on a recognizance with a $175 surety pending his appearance on an assault charge. A condition of his bail is that he have no contact with the woman he assaulted and he is not to go to his place of employment without permission of his bail supervisor.
Glenn Chevalier, of Keremeos, was released on a $1,000 recognizance on condition that he contact none of the persons connected to charges laid against him and pending in court.
