FINALLY, A DIFFERENT ISSUE Okay, I admit it
I need to think about something else other than to two big issues floating around town these days.
That's not to say the doctor and housing issues aren't important, but I need to have something else to occupy my mind on those days when I'm about up to here with a day at the office.
Did you know that the Posse is so close to taking First Place in their division that you need to be an accountant to calculate the math leading up to the playoffs?
No, really.
If I figured it out right they only needed three points to take the division, and at the time I'm writing this, they still have three games left in the season, plus a make-up that may not even be necessary depending on the next two games.
Or something like that.
It gets slightly more complicated when you factor in the other three teams in the division, not to mention the rest of the conference.
I think the worse that can happen is the Posse finishes the season in Second Place, but finishing First is better for a couple reasons. They would get a bye into the Second Round of playoffs which means while Summerland and maybe Kamloops meet in the First Round, the Posse gets a rest.
They need a rest.
It's been a rough season on the boys.
And I can use the break.
That's right, I can use a break.
Hey, I'll be the second person to say how much I like going to the games (I think Randolfo Macleano is easily at the head of that line), but I'm about done with hockey this year.
It happened this time last year as well. The guys I sit with at the games have seen me start to fade. I'm no longer in a rush to get to the front of the concession line for a Diet Coke. I casually scribble down notes during the game instead of sitting on the edge of my seat. I hardly yell or cheer or moan anymore. I rarely mouth the words to OO Canada' now. Even my trigger finger is slowing down and I'm missing some great photos.
It must be near the end of the season.
I really need the Posse to clinch First Place in their division so I can catch a break.
The playoffs will be a different matter.
Just like the team, I'll be fresh, well-rested and raring to get at it.
