THERE'S NOTHING GOING ON HERE
EDITORIAL - March 13, 2007
You know, you push one industry to play by the rules and suddenly you're branded as being 'anti-progress' or not interested in corporations setting up shop and creating jobs.
We've heard it a lot lately that it appears that Princeton is slowly becoming a ghost town.
Well, we'd really like to point out that is so far from the truth. There is a lot going on in and around Princeton.
The list is long, but here goes a few just off the top of our heads...Mascot Gold Mine Tours continues to expand as they attract tourists to our valley. Goldcliff Resources continues it's drilling program and finds more gold near Hedley. The Town of Princeton continues with it's airport expansion plans. The Town of Princeton continues with it's Town Square Project to beautify the downtown core. The Town of Princeton buys property downtown to allow the Okanagan Regional Library to relocate and expand which in turn allows the museum to expand. The Regional District (along with other partners) continues to develop the Riverside Wellness Centre. The Regional District (along with other partners) continues to work on the arena expansion plan...
There are more but you get the idea - and in the words of that great rock 'n' roller (Jerry Lee Lewis to be exact) there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on!
This makes us wonder why the 'Princeton is becoming a ghost town' label keeps resurfacing. Sure studies have shown that literacy levels and academic levels have dropped in our little piece of clear blue sky but a ghost town? Far from it.
Progress often takes a very long time to set in motion but once those wheels get enough grease, watch out!
What may be confusing a few of those 'ghost towners' is that they are currently experiencing the set-up-to-progress in real time.
We are confident our community is going in the right direction and in a year from now we'll be looking back and saying, "Wow! Look what all has happened in the past year!"
Yes, believe it or not, there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on.
