I HAVE SOMETHING OF VALUE
I was elected to the Princeton Posse Board of Directors last week.
It wasn't a hard election to win as only a handful of eligible voters were on hand to cast ballots.
I didn't have to campaign by knocking on doors, visiting local functions, making a lot of promises or spending a bag of money on advertising. I would like to think I was elected because I have something of value I can contribute to the future success of the hockey club and to the team.
I have spent many, many years as a volunteer.
At one point I was on no less than four associations but in recent years I had to cut back. Most volunteers do at one point or other and during that time it allowed me to examine what I had been doing and take a rest from extra meetings and responsibilities.
It also allowed me to determine where I could best use my skills. I have a number of hidden talents I don't normally talk about, but becoming part of the Princeton Posse Board of Directors will likely allow me to use a few of them.
There was something said by Posse Head Coach Dale 'Duner' Hladun at last week's AGM that has stuck with me.
His exact words were: "Weirdly enough, the town is still only this big and the team is still a mystery to a lot of people."
That got my attention as I think the community has an asset with the team.
As 'Duner' proved at that meeting the team generated close to $600,000 for the local economy last season. All of it at what would be considered the slow time of year.
I can't think of any other organization that has managed to do that between September and February in Princeton.
There's no doubt in my mind it's going to be a pretty interesting few months for the Directors of the Princeton Posse.
There's going to be some very important decisions to make along with some tough decisions to make but ultimately those decisions will be made with you the fans in mind.
I'm looking forward to being part of the decision making process and hope that what we end up doing will attract more fans, foster fan loyalty and possibly interest more volunteers to jump on board.
And think about it. Do you have something of value inside of you that may be of use to the Princeton Posse? Or do you think that thing of value you have may be useful to another local community group?
I've identified where I can best use my talents and can't wait to ride with the Posse!
