THERE AIN'T NO MOLD IN THIS CULTURE
EDITORIAL - April 24, 2007
For many, culture is an experiment in chemistry.
In Princeton, for at least one week a year, it's a celebration of hidden talents possessed by many area residents.
This is Arts & Culture Week (April 22-28) and so far we have been treated to the Princeton Performing Art Society's first-ever performance "The Mousetrap" which not only sold out every performance scheduled, but showcased a talented troupe of actors.
In addition, the production would not have been possible without those unsung heroes in the background handling everything else from sound effects to direction, ticket sales and lighting, wardrobe and make-up and so many more behind the scenes duties that were necessary to bring "The Mousetrap" to life.
Later this week Arts & Culture Week will include an Art Show featuring two very talented young artists followed by an evening of Ballet!
Say what you want about there being nothing to see or do in around town, and if it weren't for the transformation of the former Riverside School into the Riverside Centre, it may never have happened.
Maybe you sketch a little, or play a musical instrument.
You are part of Princeton's 'culture.'
Maybe you write short stories, or have an interesting hobby.
You are part of Princeton's 'culture.'
Maybe you ranch or participate in or help to organize a local event such as the rodeo, horse racing or agricultural fall fair.
You are also part of Princeton's 'culture.'
There has always been 'culture' in Princeton.
Most of it was hidden while the rest of it had nowhere to be displayed. Now with the addition of Riverside Centre, Princeton's hidden 'culture' will have a place to germinate and grow - much like a science project.
And that's a good thing.
Enjoy Arts & Culture Week and show your appreciation of those hidden talents by supporting local events with your participation.
