THE GREAT WATER SPRINKLING GLITCH
June 26, 2007
With the warmer weather the Town of Princeton reminds us to be water conscious and only sprinkle on days of the week that correspond with address numbers.
You know the drill if your address ends in an even number, you get to water on even numbered days of the month with odd numbered homes allowed to sprinkle on odd numbered days.
Already we see a problem with this old, outdated and somewhat flawed system.
It is obviously designed for people living in odd numbered homes as in months with thirty one days they get to enjoy two days of back-to-back watering on the 31st of one month and the 1st of another.
Rotten back-to-back sprinklers!
Then there's the problem in our neighbourhood.
We own two lots in the same fence line. The main lot (the one with the house on it) is even numbered, like all the other homes and addresses on the same side of the street.
Our 'auxiliary' lot, the one without the house on it that is usually just used for parking our cars and the barking of our dogs is also even numbered.
So what's the big deal about that?
The even numbered 'auxiliary' lot happens to be the only even numbered address on the odd numbered side of the street!
We smell something and its not flowers or grass growing from our 'auxiliary' lot.
Although we are merely poking fun as we rarely water the yard in the first place, we find it amusing and confusing that our 'auxiliary' lot address does not match up with that of it's neighbours. There's no doubt it's not the only case of bad numbers in the community.
We doubt the planners back in the 1940s, when this neighbourhood was plotted out, were too concerned with water conservation but when water regulations are in place we like to point out that had our addresses actual been correct, we could be one of only a few residents in the Town Limits who could legally water every day of the week!
