THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

October 3, 2006

THANK YOU, THANK YOU

We're going to get serious for a moment.

Anyone who has read this paper for any length of time knows we ALWAYS support volunteers and probably understands why we do this.

Without volunteers, this town would be in serious trouble. There would be no local celebrations and no sport or cultural activities in our community.

Not to mention enhancements made to the community through volunteer fund raising efforts.

Volunteers give of their time, asking for nothing in return although a 'thank you' is always appreciated.

As this happens to be Fire Prevention Week, it reminds us how lucky we are in the Similkameen to have the support of dedicated volunteers who band together to fight fires.

We are also fortunate to have groups of volunteers willing to spring into action to provide support for firefighters.

We thank each and every Fire Department member from Eastgate, Tulameen, Hayes Creek, Princeton, Hedley and Keremeos VOLUNTEER Fire Departments, along with any other Fire Department operating in our region.

We tip our hats to you.

We also would like to echo the message sent to us from the RDOS regarding volunteers who jumped into action and worked hours and hours in connection with the Emergency Operations Centre that was located at Princeton Hospital during the Tatoosh and Border Lake Forest Fires.

We extend that thank you to all the dedicated volunteers in the Keremeos area who helped during the Tripod Complex Forest Fire.

When we were first notified about the response to a call for volunteers and how impressed and amazed officials were to see such an active volunteer movement in both ends of the Similkameen Valley all we could say in response was, "That's just what we (local residents) do here."

We never really think much about it until it's pointed out to us in such a way, so once again, THANK YOU, Thank You!

We hope to never have to make 'That Call' but knowing we have such qualified, trained, prepared and capable volunteers already in place is a comfort.

Please take a moment this week to think about and thank these people in whatever manner you think is appropriate.

They are truly an asset to our community in more ways that one.
