THE BIG ONE GOT AWAY
EDITORIAL - October 10, 2006
Have you ever seen an invention or great idea that seemed so simple, or just made such common sense that you kick yourself for not coming up with it first?
We are currently kicking ourselves for failing to sell Compliance Energy on the concept of dumping some serious cash into the Princeton Posse.
The 'A-Ha!' moment hit us when we attended the cheque presentation two weeks ago when FortisBC beat us to the punch.
Yep, had our spin doctors been successful in convincing Compliance of doing the same thing - only first - it could have played out a little differently.
First of all, Compliance would have had the chance to re-name the Junior B Hockey team the Princeton Pulverizers. It would have made for some really good sports stories, even if the team didn't win that many games.
We could have said things like the Pulverizers beat Kimberly because the boys were able break apart and 'create more surface' and the visiting team just couldn't cover it all, or something like that.
Cross promotion would have been the best part with Fan Appreciation Nights at each Pulverizer home game.
Get this: It's Mercury Awareness Night where the first 100 people will receive a free thermometer or Coal Is Our Friend Night where EVERYONE gets a lump of coal!
How about T-Shirt Night where fans would receive a t-shirt that says "Compliance Energy, giving you the shaft - one small BC town at a time!"
While we're at it there could be a little mascot of some kind, like a three-eyed fish or something to represent the future of the Similkameen River, or a big giant (tall) smoke stack belching invisible things.
Whoo-Hoo!!!
Actually it's not too late for Compliance to buck up. Only maybe they should earmark the money to go towards the Arena Expansion project with the promise that the new-improved arena be called the Coal Bowl.
Maybe Compliance can get a grip on the Town Square project. Come to think of it, maybe the Bandshell could be the Coal Bowl.
It would be located in about the best place for Compliance to get noticed and they could play up the touchie-feelie part by saying they got involved in the Town Square to give something back to the community.
As if their emissions won't be enough.
Yep, Compliance had the chance of a lifetime with this one but they let it get away.
