Eenie, meenie, miny, moe

The upcoming Municipal Election has been a hot topic in our household.

We talk about it at the breakfast table, we talk about it with customers all day long at work, and it's pretty much the last thing we talk about before going to bed at night.

What's so interesting about this election?

Well, to begin with, just about everyone except those already employed by the Town of Princeton filed papers this time around.

Including the Mayor's race and the competition in Area H, there are a total of 22 candidates seeking to fill 6 elected positions (Area H Director, Town of Princeton Mayor and four Councillors).

That's a lot of people showing a lot of interest in what happens to our community and surrounding area in the next three years.

It's also piqued the interest of my wife, who normally has what I would refer to as a la-de-da approach to elections, politics, voting and most anything related to those three things. In fact, she was so interested this time around she sat next to me at both all-candidates forums.

Normally by that hour she's getting ready to drift off to sleep in a warm bed at home.

Okay, at first I thought she was gunning for my 'reporter' job, which I'd gladly give her, but I eventually determined she was taking notes to help her make an informed decision come voting day.

Then we discussed each forum at night, dissected them far too much the following day, tossed in a few observations, rated each speaker on a scale of five on such things as clarity of voice, appearance, whether or not they answered questions properly, what colour their eyes were and if they were left-handed or not.

Hey, sometimes you need an edge.

What I know I learned from the forums is that I totally misjudged a few candidates. I know, I've said before that all-candidate forums don't normally assist me in my decision-making when it comes to marking ballots, but it did bring a whole lot of political debate to our kitchen table.

Which I think is a good thing.

And like any good team, both of us plan to vote for the same people.

Well, that is, after she tells me whom I'm voting for.
