To The Editor;

Community of Princeton: Do you know what you're missing?

We just had a great show of colourful dancers at the new Riverside Theatre...Bollywood belly dancers to be exact. There were as many dancers as there were Princetonites attending. I commended the group for their professionalism, as they danced as if there was a full house - talented, charming, varied with interesting choreography and music, some history and diversity of the dances explained. Just a wonderful evening.

They advertised with large colourful posters around town...and yet I ran into a number of folks who said they never saw any advertising. I just heard that there was a 'by invitation only' art show the same night that drew 80 of our usual cultural activities attendees to it. It's Spring...there is usually a lot of overlap at this time of year. So be it.

After being out of town for five weeks, and returning only a couple of weeks ago, I have attended a Naturalist's walk/snowshoeing trip and wiener roast up China Creek, Jon and Rika's traditional music concert (with new repertoire and new interesting history of the area), a Community Band Concert with young members of the music circle in Princeton entertaining as well, James Bond 007 Movie Night at the theatre - and I 'could have' enjoyed a fine Celtic Spirit concert at the Hitching Post if it didn't conflict with the belly dancing. I also usually go to Cowboy Coffee on Saturday nights and enjoy the blues and jazz we get from local musicians - the cost of this is a cup of tea.

The total cost for the above-mentioned entertainment was $25.00! (there is a yearly membership for the Naturalist group - so I didn't include that).

I have heard so many complaints from people here in Princeton that there is nothing to do. There is so much to do!!!! Look for the posters at the Post Office, and various downtown businesses. Most importantly, watch your newspapers for ads - and rip them out when you first notice them - put them up on your fridge or enter the info on your calendar....like RIGHT NOW!

Also, Nadine McEwen (our Recreation person at Riverside Community Centre) puts together a great Leisure Guide and I have just called her line (250) 295-6067 which has a directory of what is upcoming re: movies and other activities. Really great, Nadine!

I must also mention Joan Kelly and Del Hall who organize a number of these activities through the Arts Council and are working really hard at developing future cultural activities as well.

As an aside, do you know we have a new Jazz/Contemp./Hip Hop teacher here in town who is excellent? Kat teaches all ages, not just kids. I loved her classes that I took early winter this year.

Coming up I am already looking forward to 'Harp Dog' Blues music at the Senior Centre early April. Sunday, April 19th the Kelowna Ballet is coming to our theatre.

This past week there was a Grad/RCMP Hockey Game, the RCMP Regimental Ball and another movie screening at Riverside.

The people involved with these venues put a lot of time and effort into coming and performing in our small town; the organizers trying to bring diverse, live culture here to the community.

I'm sure having fun being entertained here in Princeton!
