LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
- April 1, 2008

To The Editor;

I am writing you on behalf of the Fence Lake Committee. It appears to me that your publication does not take our plans very seriously. We are trying very hard to change the name of Osprey Lake and find it difficult to be taken seriously.

I was sort of hoping you could provide us with some suggestions on how we could improve our credibility as we prepare to meet with wildlife officials to discuss our plans.

Thank you!

Sincerely, Barb Wire, Fence Lake Committee

(Editor's Note: I'm not even sure where to start with this. Let me see if I have it right, the three lakes out your way are Chain, Link and Osprey. You want to change Osprey to Fence, which would make the three lakes Chain, Link and Fence. I don't think I can help you).

Dear Editor:

I just wanted to write you to say thank you for allowing my sweet little daughter, April, write for your paper.

She has always indicated a fondness for the written word and from what she was told by her teachers in school, she was going to go places.

We never expected it to be in the pages of your very fine and informative publication.

Once again, we thank you so very sincerely for supporting our daughter's wishes and giving her a hand.

Yours truly, Ida Phuel

(Editor's Note: April received a great deal of assistance from News Leader Owner/Publisher George Elliott, Reporter Dawn Johnson and a couple of anonymous helpers).

To The Editor:

Dear Mr. Editor, Sir:

I suspect you are so busy a person that you may miss what I would think would be a very funny opportunity for you!

Did you know that your next edition of the Similkameen News Leader will be dated April 1st?

I think it would be funny if you were to write up a bunch of funny almost believable stories to feature in that issue as a big April Fool's prank.

In fact I think you could write about the Similkameen Valley separating from the rest of BC. It would be very funny. You could also write a story about the name of Princeton being changed to Vermilion Forks and maybe a sports story of some kind. Something wacky like a new football league forming with a team to be based in Princeton.

I'm sure you can come up with better ideas, but there's a few to get you thinking. I am laughing right now thinking about it.

(Editor's Note: We considered it once but decided something like that would never sell).

Dear Editor:

RE: Princeton Town Clean Up 2008

Thanks to everyone who helped so much in getting this town moving in the right direction! It was hard to believe how many people showed up so early on a Saturday morning and made sure a lot of garbage tossed from years ago was removed.

Thank to everyone in town who was part of the clean up - I think we all were exhausted at the end of the day but even more satisfied with the result!

From the yellow car beside the river and about ten times more metal than we expected to find below the high school to every little and big pieces of plastic and paper along our streets and in other areas. A lot of citizens collected unbelievable amounts of trash!

Anything from heavy metal pipes to bumpers, batteries, umbrellas, tires and camping chairs were found and removed just by the small group of people I joined. I am sure there was a lot more found and removed by all the other citizens who helped.

Princeton is on it's way to become a better, cleaner and more desirable town to live in and this all helps to bond everyone who lives here more and more each week as we get things accomplished!

This event could be held twice a year if you ask me and hopefully less junk will be found than this time.

Now we can slowly think about the town painting challenge (what challenge?) mid to late April. WE CAN DO IT!

- Stefan Dietz, Princeton
