LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - November 1, 2005
Dear Sir:
Re: Editorial - A Short Time Ago
Who We Elect and Where They Live
My apologies for the slow response to the News Leader Editorial. It made me stop and think, re: voting for a candidate in the upcoming Town Elections. Although it is within the Elections Act - To live in Hope (as an example) and run for office in Princeton as long as he or she is qualified, made me wonder whether this is like hiring a house sitter
when you go away, to make renovations to your home.
Well, the house sitter does not own the home, does not pay the taxes and does not know the community, but is able to make decisions regarding everything that is important to my well being.
Such as my: Clean Drinking Water, Fire Protection, Recreational Facilities, Sidewalks and Roads, Municipal Work Crews, Community Planning.
My community as a whole, whether I walk or drive or do business, for as you seen to know your community you have to live there. Walk the street, talk to your neighbours, drink the water and talk to the business people.
The house sitter only has to be paid and then go home to a different world.
These are my personal thoughts and do not reflect on any candidate running in the upcoming election.
It was written in regards to the News Leader editorial to stop and think before you cast your ballot.
Yours truly, Don Fleming
