EVANS SHARES INSIGHT
An entertaining and informative presentation - jointly sponsored by Princeton District Teachers' Union, the Steelworkers and CUPE Unions - was made by Opposition Critic for the Ministry of Mines & Energy, and Nelson/Creston NDP MLA Corky Evans last Sunday afternoon in Princeton Legion Hall.
Just over fifty area residents attended and enjoyed Evans' take on politics and the problems with our country.
Evans explained the four most interesting facts about the upcoming Federal Election, which included:
1) "It's not very complicated. We (British Columbians) will actually decide how this country is governed" as a result of changes in polling times across Canada.
2) "It's largely about power. It's about who gets power and the question in people's minds is not who will get power, but who will fix the way Canada is governed."
Evans explained Canadians are looking for a different kind of governing body.
"This time they are looking for a party with integrity with people with integrity to fix this broken system."
3) "The secret you can print in local newspapers, but won't see on TV is that Jack Layton is not going to win the most seats. We (the NDP) also knew that the moment that this election was called - neither are the other guys."
This point led Evans to describe, with many recent examples, how an opposition NDP has aided in the governing of Canada by keeping the rest of government honest.
Evans also pointed out that with the demise of the Reform Party, many voters are looking to the NDP.
"Our neighbours who voted Social Credit and Reform are coming back to the fold. They've been lost, so welcome them."
Evans was in the Princeton area campaigning for Southern Interior NDP Candidate Alex Atamanenko.
