BOARD HONOURS STAFF
School District 58 (Nicola-Similkameen) hosted their annual Retirement and Long Service Celebration Tuesday, June 13th at the PSS Library.
The casual event has been held in recent years to recognize retiring teachers and staff and to honour teachers and staff who have spent a number of years working in the school district.
A total of three retirees were recognized and presented with a copy of Life Magazine published in or near the year of their birth.
Darrell Brewer retires at the end of this month following 34 years, Jean Haugland retires after 16 years of service and Sylvia Adams retires after 15.741 years in the district.
"I've really enjoyed my years of teaching in Princeton," Adams told the gathering.
"I really do love the kids."
Long Service Pins were presented to the following:
- 25 Years - Pam Jones, Robert Tarswell
- 20 Years - Shane O'Malley
- 15 Years - Gordon Bibby, Shirley Low, Kitty Lynch, Rod Miller, Marilyn Ovington, Kathy Schneider, Georgina Tarswell and Lynn Willis.
- 10 Years - Kathy Froese, Guadalupe Gutierrez-Ogrinc, Judy Lee and Carol Mack.
Byron Robbie, Superintendent of Schools, spoke briefly to the recipients on the importance of being a teacher in the public education system.
"It's the opportunity to make a difference in a child's life and there is no better reward than that."
Following the presentations, teachers and staff shared favourite classroom stories and enjoyed sandwiches and desserts.

The PSS Athletic Department thanks local businesses for their support throughout the past school year with special thanks going to Princeton Golf Club, #1 Fitness & Video, Billy's Restaurant and the Legion for making the Banquet such a success.
PSS Athletic Director Kirk McConnell says the evening was an opportunity to "celebrate the accomplishments of our athletes" which saw a total of 17 teams fielded from a school with a total student population of about 250.
