JONES ATTENDS TRADE TOUR
By the time you read this Councillor Pam Jones will have already landed in China.
It's her first trip there, and the opportunity came about in an unusual manner.
The mayor of Merritt will be attending a trade tour to China and invited Princeton to send a delegate with their contingent, and Councillor Jones was picked to join the tour this week.
"I feel honoured to be asked," Jones stated.
The tour will be at no cost to the Town and the itinerary shows a very active ten days.
Following the flight to Shanghai, delegates will attend the 2nd North East China Expo on September 2nd.
The next day will see an Expo Seminar and meeting.
Delegates will then bus to Baishan for two days spent at the Mineral Water Festival, Seminar and Meeting.
Mayor Randy McLean has instructed Councillor Jones to return with a full report of trade potential for Princeton.
There will be some sightseeing, including visits to the Great Wall of China, Ming Tombs, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and a tour of Hutong (the unique Beijing Alley).
When Jones discussed her trip at the August 21st Town Council meeting, it was suggested that she should take some of the "Princeton Area Ghost Towns" DVD with her.
Contact was made with DVD producer and News Leader Owner/Publisher George Elliott who supported the suggestion immediately.
"The DVD has been very popular," Elliott says.
"Far more popular than I had originally expected and I'm excited about my product being picked to go to a part of the world with such an amazing history."
The Ghost Towns DVD, which sells for $19.99 per copy, are available at the News Leader office in Princeton and lower valley residents can pick copies up at Harker's Organic Fruit Ranch on Highway 3 in Cawston.

ARTISTS PREPARE FOR NEW SEASON
Vermilion Artists is a non-profit group which operates under the umbrella of Princeton Community Arts Council. It aims to make it possible for all artists, regardless of their level of competence, to meet other artists, enjoy the stimulation of associating with people of similar interests, enjoy learning new skills, and perhaps make some new friends.
Classes are planned with this in mind. Also artists are encouraged to get together without an instructor being present to work on their art projects, and exchange ideas and view points.
There is a small annual membership fee which entitles members to sign up for classes before they are opened to the general public. Members are also invited to display their work at art shows throughout the year and emphasis is placed on promoting the heritage and natural resources of Princeton and the surrounding area.
Members are asked to fill in a Class Request sheet indicating what classes they would like to have offered and the dates and times they would be available to participate. This year the 'Drop in and Paint' sessions starting in September will be held on Wednesdays in the Arts Council Room at Riverside Centre from 10:00 AM to 12 Noon.
Co-ordinators will be Linda Neumann and Harvey Donahue. Phone (250) 295-6778 for further information. Vermilion Artists will shortly be advertising an Art show, tentative title 'Pride of Princeton.' The actual show would be sometime in Spring or early Summer, giving artists plenty of time to work on appropriate art in the medium of their choice.
You are invited to attend the Vermilion Artists Annual General Meeting and meet the members, at 6:45 PM on Tuesday, September 12th at Riverside Centre (148 Old Hedley Road).
New members are welcome. For more information contact Mary at (250) 295-6778.
