COUNCIL CONSIDERS DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP

salute to the Beef Industry

A property on Snowpatch Road, formerly known as Bear Mountain Residential Subdivision, is under consideration for development.

An inspection of the Crown land bordering Town boundary was done on July 20 by Bob Brodie, representing B.C. government and Philipe Batini, of the Upper Similkameen Indian Band.

In a letter to Batini, copied to Town Council, Brodie advises the property has "good potential to develop for residential use."

He stated his agency would be very interested in forming a partnership with Upper Similkameen Indian Band but the Town of Princeton would have to be actively involved in the development of the site.

Council will communicate with both parties for further discussion.

COUNCIL LOOKS AT HEALTH GRANT

A second round of grants is available from the Community Health Promotion Fund through the Union of BC Municipalities.

Projects may be funded up to $35,000 per project. Applications must be received by September 18, 2006.

Town Council reviewed the opportunity at the August 21 meeting. Communities for Kids is looking at a project for a community kitchen to improve nutrition for children and help parents learn meal planning that stretches the budget while meeting the nutritional needs of children.

Council will discuss the opportunity with representatives of Communities for Kids.

ROTARY PUTS THE FUN IN FUNDRAISING

Princeton Rotary Club marked sixty years of community service earlier this year and continues to host fundraising activities to benefit the community.

The Club is probably best known for it's activity during Princeton Racing Days weekend with their annual Similkameen Cup Sweepstakes.

Two years ago the group added a new event to it's annual calendar of events, a Winefest. During this past Summer Rotary brought back their annual Golf Tournament and is currently working on final touches for another new event set to take place next month.

The Princeton Rotary 'Taste Of Ales' is planned to be an afternoon of live music, food and ale tasting. It may sound simple, but the Club has been working out the details of this event for the past couple of months.

The 'Taste Of Ales' will take place from 2:00 - 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 14th at Princeton Castle Resort.

The event will feature products from no less than six breweries. Currently Tin Whistle Brewing, Cannery Brewing, Tree Brewing, Alpine Brewing, Mt. Begbie Brewing Company and Okanagan Premium Cider are confirmed for attendance.

Numerous local restaurants have also jumped on board to provide items for food tasting.

Live music scheduled for the event will be provided by the Hedley Mountain String Band and Slim Pickins Quartet.

Chuckwagon races

Tickets will cost $20.00 each, which entitles the bearer to two food/drink tickets, access to the live music and a souvenir beer glass. Additional food/drink tickets will be available on site for $1.00 each.

Advance tickets are available at Stevens & Stevens Notaries Public and Sears Canada (both on Bridge Street, downtown).

There will be an Early Bird draw for a night for two in a cabin at Castle Resort. The draw will be made October 7th.

Although the event sounds like more fun than anything else, in the spirit of the Princeton Rotary Club, it is also a fundraising event with proceeds earmarked to support Vermilion Trails Society and other Rotary projects.
