ARTS COUNCIL STARTS NEW SEASON
New President Rika Ruebsaat began her first term leading Princeton & District Community Arts Council with some new guidelines.
She asked member groups to submit their aims and objectives for the October meeting. She requested member groups to write a report for the 2008 annual general meeting outlining the year's activities, along with a financial report and plans for the following year. During regular meetings, member groups may report on upcoming events or items of interest.
Vermilion Artists thanked the Arts Council for assistance in bringing in art instructors. Mary Bedford said the instructors were outstanding. A drawing instructor is coming in November for two sessions.
Del Hall told everyone about an afternoon of musical entertainment coming on Sunday, October 14, at Riverside Centre lounge. Folk singer Jeff Warner, who plays banjo and guitar, will sing some of his repertoire of North American folk songs.
Hall reminded everyone that BC Arts & Culture Week will be from April 21 to 27 in 2008, and asked every group to plan ahead for that week.
Princeton Performing Arts has selected a play "The Importance of Being Earnest" as their next production, but the group is waiting to learn when the Riverside gym will be under construction before deciding when the play will go on stage.
The Potter's Guild has 12 members who are planning a group project which will involve the public. They will meet on October 2 at Riverside Centre to brainstorm an idea.
Norma Kraetor gave a report of Garden Club activities during the past year.
President Ruebsaat advised that she, Jon Bartlett and Del Hall had formed Princeton Traditional Music Society to promote knowledge of traditional music of the area. They plan to put on a free music festival on August 16 in downtown Princeton, and requested membership in the Arts Council for the group. They were welcomed.
Treasurer Nick Mills asked every group to be sure to submit their grant request form by September 19. A few member groups have not paid their 2007 dues, and he urged them to do so immediately.
POTTERY STUDIO PROPOSES MURAL PROJECT
Princeton Potter's Guild members held a meeting on September 10th at the Riverside Centre Pottery Studio to decide how they would like to proceed in the following year.
It was decided that they would like to discuss the idea of a Community Clay Mural Project, in which the hope is to get lots of people involved in making clay tiles on a common mural to be mounted in the Riverside building. An information meeting about possible workshop dates and theme for the mural will be held on Tuesday, October 2nd at 7:00 PM in the Riverside Pottery Studio.
If anyone in the community would like to become involved in what we know will be a fun, social event, please contact Sue at (250) 295-0527. We hope to bring awareness to the Pottery Program and studio and to get together on a common goal to enhance the artistic vision of Riverside Centre, in conjunction with the theatre renovation happening in the building.
Other pottery news revolves around upcoming classes being offered by Sue LePoidevin through the Fall Recreation Program. LePoidevin's classes are always well received by those who participate and this year she will be offering Clay for Kids ages 5-8, Pinch Pot Pumpkins and Candle Lanterns AND Clay for Kids ages 8-12, Holiday Houses and Ornaments.
Both classes will be held after school at 3:30 PM on Wednesdays. Adult classes, Handbuilding and Using the Potter's Wheel, will also be starting Tuesday evenings, October 16th to November 20th. LePoidevin will share her knowledge of over 25 years of teaching community classes and running her own professional studio in clay to guide students through their individual
projects.
Contact Sue at (250) 295-0527 or Nadine at (250) 295-6067, for more information on dates and registration for classes or call Sue for more info about the Tile Mural Project.
