SICAMOUS EAGLES CLAW THE POSSE

SICAMOUS EAGLES CLAW THE POSSE

Princeton Posse hosted Sicamous Eagles on December 21st, in a rare mid-week home game.

The contest, billed as a 'Teddy Bear' game where fans were encouraged to toss stuffed animals on the ice when Princeton scored their first goal, was not really a contest at all.

Sicamous - the league-leading team - displayed skills and moves that proved why they were on top of the standings.

The Posse played a great game, but just could not get the puck in the net.

The Eagles scored three times in the first period and three more times in the second period.

A highlight of the game occurred during the second intermission when the draw was made for an autographed Trevor Linden Vancouver Canucks hockey jersey.

Princeton's Atoms earned $1,200.00 in proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets for the prize, which was won by Barb Gould.

As for the hockey game, Sicamous added two more goals in the first eight minutes of the third period to lead the game with a score of 8 to zip.

Those with teddy bears were getting anxious to toss them at anyone when Princeton's Conner McGarry finally put Princeton on the board at 7:16. Assists went to David Wyman and Brad Davis.

The ice surface was flooded with stuffed animals and Posse players gathered them quickly and play resumed.

Sicamous added two more goals to finish the game with a 10 - 1 win.

On the upside, shots on goal were 32 for Princeton and 30 for Sicamous.

POSSE BRINGS SMILES TO CHILDREN

Although the Princeton Posse lost their last game before the Christmas break to Sicamous Eagles, the boys did at least two good deeds to help the less fortunate.

Players were in attendance at Princeton Dairy Queen December 21st for fans to pose for photos. Although only a few took advantage of the unique gift idea, Posse players cheerfully provided table service to restaurant patrons.

The hockey game that night was billed as a 'teddy bear' night where fans were encouraged to toss stuffed animals on the ice when Princeton scored their first goal of the game.

Fans had to wait until midway through the third period for their opportunity to cover the ice surface with bears. Around 75 stuffed animals were collected and donated to the Princeton Crisis Assistance Society's Christmas Hamper Fund.

John Babiak, of Princeton Dairy Queen, had donated numerous toys earlier in the week, collected as part of his restaurant's Angels Anonymous program. He approached the team about the Teddy Bear idea and received support from the Posse, Princeton Recreation Commission, Princeton Crisis Assistance Society and Similkameen News Leader.

Babiak's 'Meet The Posse' photo-op was also organized as a fundraiser, but in support of the hockey team. Joan Bush of Joan Bush Photo Treasures in Cawston took the photos.
