CHASE CHIEFS DOUBLE POSSE
The Valley First Princeton Posse hosted their first home game of 2008 on January 15th a rare Tuesday night match against Chase Chiefs.
Chase recorded their first goal of the night 1:26 into the game, but Princeton rallied back to tie the game at 4:31 when Tyler Martin ripped a shot from the stick side corner. The power play goal earned Curtis Gerlig and Taylor Stuart assists.
The tying goal put some life into the Posse who scored again at 7:37. Randall Groot got the power play goal with Riley Ferster adding an assist. Then Chase turned it on and added two goals of their own at 9:47 and with 1:59 left in the period to finish the first frame with a 3 to 2 lead.
The second period started with a couple short delays as officials repaired three different locations in the arena where the ice surface was apparently gouged. Almost as soon as play started, another delay, at 3:59, lasted quite some time as the officials concentrated on repairing a part of the ice surface located near the Posse goal.
The delays lit a fire inside the Posse as Princeton lit up the scoreboard adding two quick goals within 30-seconds (5:08 and 5:38). The first goal was a skillfully mastered backhand from in front of the goal by Logan Johnston off a pass from Tyler Martin. The second goal, a short-handed marker, was credited to Wade Masch with assists going to Dan Hillman and Dylan Becker.
Chase tied the game at 4-all at 9:04 and despite many opportunities, neither team added more goals in the period.
The third period was all Chase. The Chiefs scored four goals (5:12, 10:32, 16:56 and 17:50).
The Posse did score what appeared to be a goal with 4:32 left to play when a rebound slipped out from beneath the Chase goalie's pads and into the goal crease, which was then tapped, into the net. Officials waved it off. Final score: Chase 8, Princeton 4. Shots on goal: Princeton 26, Chase 25.
The Princeton Dairy Queen/Finning Tractor Kamloops Players of the game were #1 Tyler Martin, #2 Dan Hillman and #3 Jeremy Wagner.
