POSSE BLAST DYNAMITERS IN OT

Valley First Princeton Posse Assistant Coach Tyler Gunn said it best the morning after his team beat Kimberley 5-4 in OT with the statement, “This is huge.”

The huge game he was referring to took place Friday, February 6th in Princeton.

Both teams were playing a fastpaced game with Princeton outshooting the visiting Dynamiters in each period.

That being said, Kimberley dominated the scoreboard scoring three goals in the first period (the first two on the power play) to Princeton’s single goal at 5:50 (Brody Brewster from Brendan Stephen).

The second period was a continuation of the first, but no scoring.

Again, the home team dominated the shots on goal stats for the frame, but Kimberley netminder Dylan Tait did everything short of magic tricks to keep his team in the game, which was quite a feat considering the pelting he was receiving.

The third period saw Princeton kick it into high gear and score their second goal of the night at 16:15 (Nate Rempel from David Harrison). Kimberley added their fourth goal at 11:24.

The ink on the stats sheet wasn’t dry before Princeton’s Nolan O’Brian added a goal at 11:04. Assistance was credited to Derrick DeLisser.

Princeton tied the game at 4-all at 9:22 when Brendan Stephen drilled a backhander high and it ricocheted into the goal off the crossbar. Assists went to Kyle L’Arrivee and Leeland Malkinson.

It was not the first time goal posts and crossbars came into play during the game, but the only time a goal resulted from the metal bars.

Both teams scrambled to break the tie in the final 8-plus minutes of the game, but could not which forced overtime.

At 1:04 in the extra period Princeton’s Matt Chomyc sealed the deal with a pass from Dan Hillman.

Final score: Princeton 5, Kimberley 4 (OT). Shots on goal: Princeton 45, Kimberley 22.

The Princeton Dairy Queen/Overwaitea Foods players of the game were: #3 - Nate Rempel, #2 - Mike Gartieg and #1 - Brendan Stephen.
