POSSE GOES TO SEMI-FINALS
Sicamous Eagles crowded Princeton Posse from the first puck drop on Saturday night. The Eagles are the top team in KIJHL, but the Posse needed the win. It was going to be a tough fight.
The Posse held off the Eagles for nine minutes, then the Eagles scored the first goal on a power play.
With 2:01 minutes left in first period, the Posse tied the game with a shot into the net from Cody Devitt, assisted by David Wyman.
Second period started off in a whirlwind for the Eagles. They scored their second goal 30 seconds into the period. Then the Posse took another penalty and the Eagles scored again. The Posse took another penalty and the Eagles put goal #4 on the board.
The Posse came back fighting hard in the second half of second period. It was end to end hockey, fighting for the puck every step of the way. The Posse was fighting really hard and put another puck in the net but it was disallowed.
The Posse put pressure on the Eagles but were beaten every time by the Eagles' goalie. A pile-up at the Posse goal put two Posse players and one Eagles player into the box, and the Eagles scored goal #5 followed shortly by goal #6.
The Eagles took a four-minute roughing penalty and the Posse managed to score a second goal. Connor McGarry and Zach Big Swan took the credit.
With just over a minute left in the game, tempers flared in a personal fight and one player from each team went to the dressing room, but it was essentially game over at 6-2 for the Eagles.
In the bigger picture, Revelstoke beat Summerland on Saturday night, giving the Posse a place in the semi-finals. The first game is on February 28 at Sicamous. This is a best of seven, so watch for posters at the Post Office for date and time of home games.
