PRINCETON SKATING CLUB WINDS UP SEASON WITH AWARDS
The Princeton Skating Club finished their 2007/08 figure skating season with a fun skate, pizza dinner and skaters awards on Wednesday, February 27th.
The Club regrets that they were unable to present an ice show to the community this year, however our coach resigned prior to the completion of preparations to assume a non-coaching position in Calgary, Alberta.
We had a very small volunteer executive this year and without sufficient volunteers and the loss of a coach, the executive felt it was best to wind the year up in a different way and save our energy for coach recruitment, and planning and executing a fantastic carnival in 2009.
At the awards ceremony, all figure skaters received participation certificates, and a few noteworthy achievements from skaters were recognized.
In Canskate, Lane Herspiegel was recognized as the Most Improved Canskater, Alex Roccamatisi recognized as the Most Sportsmanlike Canskater and Hannah Gould was recognized as the Canskater of the Year.
In the Starskate test stream, Meagan Haayer was recognized as the most Improved Starskater and Rachel Jung recognized as the Most Sportsmanlike Starskater and Angela Marshall was recognized as the overall Skater of the Year.
Our Program Assistants, who volunteer their time to assist the coach with the Canskate program were recognized with a small gift of appreciation.
Registration for this season was lower than normal with 26 figure skaters. The Club implemented a Powerskating stream to their programs for the first time, and we were encouraged with nearly 40 powerskaters participating.
The Club is now seeking a Skate Canada professional coach to teach during the 2008/09 season. We are also looking for community volunteers who love the sport of figure skating and would like to lend their time and expertise as a member of the executive.
You do not have to be a current skater parent, we know and recognize that there are many citizens whose children participated in the club during its 32 years of program delivery.
f you are one of those parents, and would like to help with general operations, carnival preparations or coach recruitment, please give Donna Kostiuk, Princeton Skating Club President, a call at (250) 295-0206.
The Princeton Skating Club offers Learn to Skate Programs through Skate Canada's Canskate model which is designed to begin at age 4. Skills and artistic development is continued through the testing program called Starskate. Powerskating will remain a program of the Club and will be refined and further developed for the Fall of 2007.
In closing, we offer our thanks to the skaters, parents, community and arena staff for your continued support of the Club.
See you in the Fall!
