LOCAL GIRL SWIMS WITH OLYMPIC ATHLETES
To be a future Olympic contender one must begin training early. Taylor Carmichael, only 10 years old, has discovered the power of positive thinking.
A Princeton youth and member of the Princeton Kokanee Summer Swim Club, Taylor has participated in provincials two consecutive years.
Preparing to improve her performance Taylor is bound for Vancouver July 7-11. Tom Johnson, coach of the UBC Dolphins and Canada's 2008 Canadian Olympic Team coach, will see Taylor partake in the Tom Johnson Swim Camp.
Johnson coaches the fastest swimmers in the world, including Brent Hayden - 100m freestyle World Aquatic Championships gold medalist.
In Vancouver, Taylor will improve her skills, have fun, and rub elbows with members of the Canadian Olympic Team who are representing Canada in Beijing this August. She will be putting in full days at camp with two water workouts each day as well as dryland training.
"I'm really excited about it," Taylor says.
"I think it will be a lot of fun. Probably a lot of hard work too. But it'll be worth it. I know the hard work pays off."
Her daily regime runs from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Taylor's dedication and ability to think positive are already paying off. Good luck, Taylor!
