ROMANTIC COMEDY OPENS NEW THEATRE

- submitted

The Princeton Performing Arts Society's rendition of the romantic comedy "Angels In Love," running from May 29th to June 1st, will be the first production ever held in Princeton's new community theatre.

"Angels in Love," by British playwright Hugh Mills, is the Princeton Performing Arts Society's second production - a follow-up to last year's wildly successful "The Mousetrap."

The play is set in Victorian-era England and centres around one ill-fated weekend in the home of the wealthy Fauntleroy family. When Mrs. Fauntleroy realizes her twenty-five-year old married son is unaware of the Ofacts of life,' various hilarious efforts ensue in the quest to enlighten him. These are supported by other diversions, including a mistaken identity, poison in the wrong teacup, an unwanted trip to India and the parlour maid's taste in naughty novels.

"Angels in Love" has a cast of nine talented local actors, including four of the original "Mousetrap" cast.

Esther Donovan, Jason Earle, Monica Kleyn, Mike Leiding, Britt Fraser, Derek Hodgson, Jessica Rytkonen and David Badger complete this year's line-up, and director Chelsea Turner also plays a small part.

"The cast is very dedicated, and lots of fun to work with," Turner says.

"Two of our male leads - Jason Earle and Mike Leiding - have both had to come to rehearsal while on call. Mike's an RCMP officer, so it was very exciting to hear his radio crackling in the background as we were reading lines...it was certainly the first time I'd directing someone with a gun on his hip!"

Since the production takes place in Victorian England, the costumes and sets are elaborate. Many of the costumes have been rented from as far away as Nelson, and costume designer Debbie Cappos and her team have painstakingly handcrafted the rest.

The set, constructed by Derek Hodgson, includes a staircase and landing, and French doors leading out onto an English garden. All of furniture and paintings seen in the production are genuine antiques, loaned from the antique furniture store Second Wind in Penticton.

"We wanted to create the most authentic experience possible for the audience," says Turner, "and our production team has worked very hard to ensure that."

Tickets are currently on sale at the Princeton Pharmasave. Advance ticket sale prices are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. All tickets will be $20 at the door. Last year tickets sold-out quickly so be sure to book yours today.
