ELKS RODEO ANOTHER SUCCESS!
The weather held off and a crowd filled the stands for the annual May long weekend Keremeos Elks Rodeo last Saturday and Sunday.
Many Sunday scores shattered marks set the day before.
In Bareback Riding on Sunday, Cash Kerner of Pritchard finished the day on top with a 76 point ride on Decker. Ryan Schmelzer from Washington State finished second with 75 and Justin King of Sagle, WA was third with 74.
In Tie Down Roping Clayton Freemantle of Quesnel took the day money with a time of 12.1-seconds. Steve Pozzobon from Kamloops was second with 13.4-seconds and Brad Thomas of Alkaki Lake finished third with a time of 15.2-seconds.
In the Saddle Bronc Devin Richter of Omak finished on top of the leader board with an 80 point ride on Starbucks. Darrell Schneider of Hedley was second with 78 and Rod Rimmer from Victoria was third with 74.
In Steer Wrestling Jim Gerhardi of Quesnel recorded a time of 4.4-seconds on Saturday. Rob Everett of 150 Mile House got the best score Sunday of 11.6-seconds.
In Breakaway Roping rodeo announcer Al Parsons' daughter Justine had the best time Saturday with 7.0-seconds but cowgirls on Sunday shattered that mark. Katie Waterston of Kamloops took top spot with a time of 4.7-seconds with Cody Braaten of Langley finishing in second with 3.5-seconds and Taylor Schneider of Hedley in third with 4.0-seconds.
In Junior Steer Riding the best score on Sunday was recorded by Nik Smith of Peachland with 79 points. Keegan Smith of Merville was second for the day with 75 points.
In Ladies Barrel Racing a Saturday time of 17.561-seconds was demolished on Sunday with Montana Madill of Courtney recording the blazing fast time of 17.270-seconds.
In the Junior Barrel Racing Event a Saturday time of 18.049-seconds recorded by Rylee Cork of Quesnel was the top score to beat and Morgan Fosbery of Merritt shattered it Sunday with her time of 17.824-seconds.
In Novice Barrel Racing Lisa Winters of Penticton stayed on top of the leader board with her Saturday time of 18.449-seconds. The best time Sunday went to Sheryl Spencer of Penticton with 18.471-seconds.
In the Team Roping event, a time recorded Saturday of 8.0-seconds was beat repeatedly on Sunday.
When the dust settled, it was the pair of Chad Evenson (Pritchard) and Cole Pozzobon (Pritchard) in first place with a time of 6.0-seconds. Second place went to Cecil and Leo Louis of Vernon with their time of 6.1-seconds and in third were the duo of Josh Cahill (Clinton) and Rod Spiers (Arras) with 7.0-seconds.
The Bull Riding event, which was split into two sections coupled with Team Roping, saw a large portion of the crowd leave on Sunday thinking the end of the first section of Bull Riding was the end of the rodeo.
Andrew Stewart of Douglas Lake took the day money on Sunday with his 82 point ride on MXC. Jesse Bailey (Pritchard) finished the day in second with a ride worth 80 points on Cotton Eyed Joe and Anthony Robbins (Alkali Lake) was third with a 70 point ride on Pork Chop.
The Sunday Rodeo ended just in time for the beef barbeque in Memorial Park hosted by Southern Interior Stockmens Association.
The ranchers cooked up hundreds of steaks during the event.
