PANTHERS EARN SOME RESPECT
The Princeton Pink Panthers, sponsored by FortisBC, recently had the opportunity to travel to Penticton for the Squirt District Playdowns on June 17th and 18th. We took 13 girls with us, most of whom had never played organized ball before this year.
First game Saturday morning was against Vernon Black Diamonds, and, after a rough start, our girls rallied to make a game of it, to lose by only 4 runs. The next game was against Vernon Bulldogs. We again, had a rough start, but rallied to take a late lead and almost held it. We ended up losing by only 1 run this time.
Our last game Saturday, pitted us against the District Champs from Rutland.
Their pitcher was very fast and very wild. We definitely took our lumps in this one, on the scoreboard and in the batters box. Sunday morning we played Sicamous. It was a back and forth battle and our girls delivered the knockout blow in the bottom of the final inning, scoring 4 runs to win by 3.
We ended up in 8th place out of 12, on the strength of a solid plus/minus.
The girls and our coaching staff had a blast in Penticton and have even made plans to play games with Penticton and Merritt through the summer!
