VTS SAYS THANKS FOR SUPPORTING EVENT

activity leading to the start of the Trans-Canada Trail Challenge

by Judy Short, President,

Vermilion Trails Society

The day was very good. We heard few complaints, only the one we were worried about all along and that was the softness of the trail in the first part of the ride.

We gave thanks for the rain prior to the ride as that hardened up the base some. This area has a poor base and would cost a lot of money to correct. Water does help and that was welcome. The Rotary Club was wonderful again coming out and setting up the concession stand to support us.

We had many repeat challengers from last year. They for the most part felt it was an easy ride.

We had our ice-cream eating dog (Max) back once again to do the ride. His grand dad walked the whole 53kms and came in at 6:00 PM. He also was the main organizer of the event along with Jim Stolth. It was really their event and Vermilion Trails Society were the supporters.

We had a family from Port Coquitlam who had their tandem bike and baby cart behind mom's bike so the whole family could participate. The Cowley Family, their Grandpa Harold Bridge celebrated his 79th birthday on our ride and proudly wore a Canada t- shirt to display his birthright.

A lady rode her bike in and came over to me and stated she would like to give the Society her bike as her family didn't like it and didn't want to take it home. She stated she would buy a new one. The bike is only about three years old so that was a very generous gift.

If it were not for all the wonderful people who made donations to the Trail Society and those who came out to participate in the event it could not have been possible.

We would like to name each and every volunteer, but I would not risk missing one person so I will just say an enormous thank you to each and every precious person who gave up their day to volunteer their time to make the event such a success. You know who you are and I know what each and every one of you look like and appreciate all that you gave to our Society.

If there is any money to be made on the event I will assure you that it will go into making our trail even more inviting to bring people to our town to keep the town vibrant and going forward. Many people told me that they were treated so well here and that they had enjoyed their stay in town and quite a few stayed the Sunday as well as Saturday. So we hope in some small way the Vermilion Trail Society is helping to support the economy of our town.

That is our aim. THANK YOU ALL ONCE AGAIN!
