SCHOOL HOSTS BASKETBALL CAMP
Twenty-three young basketball players from Princeton participated in the camp that took place at Princeton Secondary School from Monday August 13th to Friday August 17th. The players worked on their passing, shooting, defense, rebounding and ball handling skills with coaches Ryan Wade, Chad Pidhaichuk and Jesse McLean. The three run basketball camps in both Alberta and BC and have done so for the past four summers.
"The camps are a great way to keep young people playing basketball, improving their skills and having a good time." Said Coach McLean, a former Princeton Rebels basketball player, "We found that with our program in Drumheller, the players required the extra time to work on their skills and become better players. The camps had a great impact on the game of basketball in that community and it is my hope that we can do the same for Princeton."
McLean adds, "Like any large event you try to put on, you need a great deal of assistance to make it happen. We were very lucky to have the assistance of Kirk McConnell, the athletic director from PSS, who made our lives very easy with booking the gym for us, registering players, opening the gym and helping us with anything we needed. Without Mr. McConnell's assistance this camp would never have taken place."
There were also other contributions.
"Adrea McLean was a huge help handling the registrations and budgeting and then handled all the running around to get the camp ready before we made the trip out. We were lucky to have donations from Billy's Restaurant that handled all the coaches' meals for the week, Subway who helped us out with the players lunch on Friday afternoon, Dairy Queen, #1 Fitness and Video for the coaches' gym passes and Princeton Summer Recreation who promoted the camp. It's so nice to come back home and receive all of the support that we did for our camp. We have already planned the date for next year's camp (July 21st to 24th, 2008) and are looking forward to returning for another great week."
