POSSE SEASON STARTS WITH TWO LOSSES
Princeton Posse started their fifth KIJHL season with a 7-1 loss to Sicamous on the road Friday, September 1st.
The Posse's first home exhibition game was the following night, again against Sicamous.
Close to 200 spectators attended the game which saw a new look team with only four veterans returning from last year's squad.
The foursome includes Mike Salter (captain), and Anthony Leardo, Peter Purves and Jordan Lane (all assistant captains).
Sicamous opened scoring at 2:07 on the power play and Princeton replied at 3:39 with even strength.
Mike Salter got the marker with assistance from Spencer Brooks and Dan Hillman.
Sicamous finished the first period scoring two more (11:49 and 19:17) power play goals to bring their lead to 3-1 after one.
In the second period Sicamous scored two more goals, at :36-seconds and 2:21.
Princeton added their second goal of the game at 7:33 when Jordan Lane blasted a slapshot from just inside the blue line in front of the players bench that whizzed by the Sicamous goalie before he could react. Assists went to Spencer Brooks and Tyson Vaugeois.
Sicamous added one more marker and Princeton replied with another at 18:05 from Rory McDowall (assisted by Dominic Alec and Trevor Boyko).
The second period ended with Sicamous leading 6 to 3.
Princeton narrowed the gap 6:08 into the third period with a goal from Jordan Lane on the power play. Assists were credited to Mike Salter and Matt Arnold.
For an exhibition game there were far too many penalties called than necessary with Princeton collecting 47-minutes worth and Sicamous earned 45-minutes of their own.
One of the most interesting calls was at 7:25 of the final period when Mike Salter, who was tripped by a Sicamous player, was called for interference while he was clearly laying on the ice. That call upset the crowd.
Princeton travels to Grand Forks for their final exhibition game on Tuesday, September 5th.
The regular season starts Friday, September 8th at Princeton Arena when the Posse will host Fernie Ghostriders.
