POSSE LOSES ONE, WINS ANOTHER

C'mon ref!

If you were to compare the two KIJHL games over the weekend the first thing to come to mind would be the vastly different Princeton Posse team from one night to the other.

On Friday night Princeton hosted their regular season home opener and wore their new jerseys.

The game saw a tired and worn out Posse unable to gel as they struggled against the Fernie Ghost Riders.

Fernie opened the scoring at 4:15 but Princeton's Brian Smith replied at 4:50 with a backhander, off the rebound, that sailed overtop the Fernie netminder.

Assists were given to Jordan Lane and Evan MacAulay.

Fernie responded with three more goals beating Posse goalie Tanner Sheridan each time.

Princeton's Spencer Brooks finished the first period with an unassisted goal with just seconds left in the period.

After one period Fernie was ahead 4 to 2 and continued to dominate the ice scoring two unanswered goals in the second period and three more in the third.

Action during the second period

Final score: Fernie 9, Princeton 2. Shots on goal: Fernie 39, Princeton 23.

The Saturday night game was a completely different matter. Princeton was playing host to Kimberly Dynamiters and played a game that should wipe out any memory of the previous game.

Princeton skated well, passed well, set up plays well and played an absolutely awesome sixty minutes of hockey.

Kimberly recorded the first goal of the night at 6:35 on the power play. Princeton responded with a goal from Anthony Leardo (assisted by Riley Ferster) at 12:09.

The Posse continued to outplay the Dynamiters in the second period scoring three unanswered goals.

The first one, only 26-seconds into the period, saw Peter Purves pop one in off the rebound with assistance from Mike Salter and Brian Smith.

The other two goals, at 5:56 and with 18.4-seconds remaining in the frame, were scored by Brian Smith (assisted by Mike Salter and Liam Darragh) and Mike Salter (assisted by Kyle L'Arrivee).

Kimberly managed their second goal of the night at 10:29 of the third period and Princeton added one more with 25-seconds left.

Final score: Princeton 5 (all power play goals), Kimberly 2. Shots on goal: Princeton 28, Kimberly 20.
