PRINCETON HITS NELSON HARD

Ref discusses a call

Princeton Posse played host to Nelson Leafs last Friday night and played another incredible game.

The boards became a big part of the game with Posse players using strength to their advantage by checking Leafs every chance they could get.

It not only took Nelson players out of various plays, it seemed to also confuse a few and messed up a lot of their play making moves.

Princeton scored first at 1:50 when Mike Salter zipped one in with assists from Liam Darragh and Peter Purves.

It was the start of one of Salter's best games in a Posse jersey.

Nelson managed two goals (4:39 and 6:00) during the period although Princeton's Brad Fraser was just about unstoppable in net.

Princeton tied to game at 12:24 with another goal from Salter with assists going to Dan Hillman and Riley Ferster.

With only 3:24 left in the period, Princeton's Sean Carr collided with teammate Garrett Pfiefer near centre ice sending Carr to the ice.

Carr laid lifeless for quite some time as an ambulance crew was called. Assistant Coaches Kevin Robillard and Peter MacDonald took turns holding Carr's head as there was concern over a possible neck injury.

Posse Coach Dale Hladun told the News Leader "they're just being cautious" while spectators were told to stay in their seats so emergency crews could quickly access the Arena.

Carr, who was conscious the whole time, was taken to PGH for x-rays and was later released with no serious injuries.

The professional and compassionate care Carr received on ice from team physician Dr. Douglas Reid and Posse coaching staff was an impressive sight.

The remaining 3:24 was played just before the Second Period.

Princeton's Liam Darragh scored goal #3 at 4:15 (assists to Mike Salter and Kyle L'Arrivee).

Nelson fired three goals past Fraser but Princeton continued to play hard and fast and managed to narrow the gap at 15:48 with a goal by Peter Purves (assists to Garrett Pfiefer and Jordan Lane). It was the only goal scored by Princeton at even strength all other goals were on the power play.

Princeton tied the game at 5-all when Spencer Brooks scored at 17:39. Mike Salter and Kyle L'Arrivee were credited with assists.

The third period saw Nelson try to take Salter out with a hard hit behind the Posse net at 4:58. The crowd erupted, no penalty was called and Salter managed to find his way to the bench with a little help.

Nelson broke the tie with a goal at 16:22.

Final score: Nelson 6, Princeton 5. Shots on goal: Nelson 33, Princeton 32.
