POSSE BEAT #1 SUMMERLAND STING

hockey game

Following what will likely be remembered as one of the most unusual road games in the current KIJHL season, the Valley First Princeton Posse did what they do best when they hosted the league-leading Summerland Sting October 2nd play hockey.

Although the home team appeared to be afraid to actually make physical contact with their opponents, they did a fine job of dominating the match from the opening face off.

In fact, for a moment, it looked as if the most physical activity taking place on ice was Sting players bumping into each other. One instance in particular, at 2:22 when Princeton's Sean Reidl was called for tripping, was actually the result of two Summerland players colliding near centre ice.

Aside from that the Posse basically beat Summerland on every other part of the game, which ended up being probably the fastest full game the Posse has played so far this season lasting only two hours from start to finish.

The stats sheet shows only 13 penalties called in total, 7 for Summerland and 6 for Princeton with the shots on goal figures confirming the Posse domination. The home team fired 34 shots at starter Hunter Shaw compared to only 8 pucks flying at Princeton's Andrew Walsh.

The first period ended quickly with no scoring and it wasn't until early in the second period when Princeton scored a power play goal. Scott Ramsey got the marker at 4:28 with help from Sean Reidl and Brooks Christensen. Princeton had many opportunities during the rest of the period to score, firing 17 shots on goal, and should have had at least two more goals if it wasn't for the incredible saves made by Summerland's netminder.

The third period saw Princeton continue to dominate even when short handed. At 5:11 Brad Goss fired a rocket on goal, which was stopped and sent a rebound out to Dan Hillman who blasted it into the back of the net.

Summerland pulled their goalie for an extra man in the final minutes of play and the Sting did a great job of thwarting many Posse attempts at scoring on the empty net.

With only 19.5-seconds to play, Dylan Becker passed to Taylor Stewart who sent the puck sailing into the empty net to finish the game.

Final score: Princeton 3, Summerland 0.
