POSSE TAKE SHOOT-OUT

Posse

The Valley First Princeton Posse hosted Beaver Valley Nitehawks October 24th in what was expected to be a hard-hitting, action-packed, high-scoring affair.

Well, there was some hard hitting, at least.

Both teams struggled throughout the first period to control the play, and after the first twenty-minutes were finished, neither team had scored a goal.

The second period seemed to be pretty much a carbon copy of the first frame until Princeton's Brooks Christensen fed the puck to Kyle L'Arrivee who smacked a shot on goal, then got his stick on his own rebound and scored the first goal of the game at 9:14.

The second period ended with the home team leading 1 to zip. The third period saw both teams ramp it up and the action-packed part of the game took over.

Both teams chased pucks in corners, wrestled them free from each other, duked it out once or twice to set boundaries and spent some time in the penalty box to cool down.

Curling

Beaver Valley tied the game at 9:36 after which Posse netminder Tanner Sheridan took exception to something that happened in his crease and displayed his frustration by firing his water bottle into the following face-off. That action earned Sheridan a gross misconduct call and Michael Garteig took over between the pipes.

Beaver Valley took the lead with another goal at 3:14.

By this time it was obvious the home team wanted to tie the match up to force overtime.

Posse Head Coach Dale 'Duner' Hladun called a time out with 1:28 left in the game, pulled Garteig for an extra man and Princeton just pounded the Nitehawk goal with pressure and pelting it was flying pucks from every direction imaginable.

Then with only 28-seconds to play Kyle L'Arrivee sent a shot high and over the Beaver Valley net. It bounced off the Plexiglas and back out in front of the goal where Brooks Christensen slapped it down and Kyle L'Arrivee popped it into the net to tie the game at 2-all. Derrick DeLisser also received an assist on the goal.

This forced a five-minute overtime period, which disappeared quicker than a plate of fresh French fries from the concession stand. After an overtime period and a game is still tied, the KIJHL moves to a five-man shoot-out format. Basically, each team picks five shooters and they alternate taking a shot on goal. Whichever team scores the most goals in the shoot-out earns a 'goal' to break the tie and win the game. Princeton's Brooks Christensen went first and scored. Beaver Valley's Kris Davis did not score, nor did Princeton's Kyle L'Arrivee or Beaver Valley's Zak Majkowski.

Princeton's third shooter, Spencer Brooks, did not score but Beaver Valley's Dave Williams did, bringing the shoot-out to a one-all tie with two shooters left for each team.

Princeton's Derrick DeLisser added the second shoot-out goal for his team and Beaver Valley's Scott Morisseau could not match it. The final two shooters, Brody Brewster (Posse) and Nitehawk Graham Proulx did not score.

With the shoot-out results Princeton 2, Beaver Valley 1, the home team earned a 'goal' to win the game. Final score: Princeton 3, Beaver Valley 2 (SO), shots on goal: Princeton 65, Beaver Valley 64.

Next home game action for Princeton will be a three-game stretch against Revelstoke (October 31), Creston (November 1) and Sicamous (November 2).
