POSSE TAME BORDER BRUINS
Valley First Princeton Posse hosted Grand Forks Border Bruins October 26th. Grand Forks went into the game with a 6-6-2 win-loss-tie record while Princeton had hopes of improving on their 9-6 record.
The Posse looked a little unorganized for most of the first period and missed a few scoring opportunities by wasting time in the Bruin zone, but they got better as the game progressed.
The Bruins scored first only 3:16 into the game on the power play.
Princeton tied the game at 6:19 in the second period when Scott Ramsay fired a shot off a pass from Brendan Stephan that zipped into traffic and landed in the Grand Forks net before the goalie knew what had happened. Dan Hillman earned an assist on the power play goal.
The face off that followed the goal was interrupted by a Grand Forks time out and at 11:27 Brad Goss shot a pass to Kellin Brown for Princeton's second goal.
The third period saw both teams playing a sharper game with better play making and at 9:07 Princeton's Kellin Brown passed to Taylor Stuart who shot the puck across the front of the Bruin goal to a waiting Brad Goss who had an open net and out of position goalie to score on.
The Posse did a great job of killing time on the clock in the final period and what looked like an easy win turned around when Grand Forks scored their second goal of the night with 3:03 remaining in the game.
The Bruins fought hard to tie the game, but could not do so. Shots on goal: Princeton 35, Grand Forks 26. Final score: Princeton 3, Grand
POSSE LOSE IN SHOOT OUT
Valley First Princeton Posse hosted the second best team in the KIJHL, Beaver Valley Nighthawks, on October 27th.
Princeton opened the game with a goal only 19-seconds into the first period when Jeremy Wagner slapped a pass from Tyler Martin into the net.
Brett Van Riper was also given credit on the play.
Beaver Valley tied the game at 10:31 but Princeton came back at 9:32 with a beautiful goal scored by Tyler Martin, who backhanded a pass from Wade Masch into the top corner of the net as he sailed across the front of the goal. Anthony Leardo also earned an assist on the short-handed goal.
Princeton added another goal at 14:51 when Brett Van Riper blasted a rebound for the score. Anthony Leardo and Kellin Brown assisted.
By this time Beaver Valley started to show signs of self-destruction racking up a total of thirteen penalties in the period.
The second period saw two different teams on ice. The Nighthawks concentrated on hockey, as did Princeton and although the period whizzed by with no further scoring, both teams played a clean period with only two penalties recorded for each team.
The 3 to 1 lead was hard for Princeton to hold in the third period with a strong Beaver Valley attack for most of the period. Both teams played great hockey with only a single penalty assessed for each team.
Princeton pushed back, but the Nighthawks got control of the period scoring at 12:26 and 11:36 to tie the game and force overtime. In the 5-minute overtime period, both teams continued to push but neither could score which put the game into a shoot-out format.
Although Princeton's Logan Johnston scored first, the Posse went 1 for 5 in the shoot-out with Beaver Valley finishing 2 for 5. Shots on goal: Beaver Valley 36, Princeton 28. Final score: Beaver Valley 4, Princeton 3 (SO).
