The 6th annual GOLF - A TIME FOR THE AGES

contestants of the annual Cover Girl Contest

by Clint Clifton

Recently in the BC Amateurs Golf Tournament BC Senior Champ 67-year old Bill MacDonald was paired with 13-14 year old BC Champ Eugene Wong. That same scenario was played out at the Princeton Golf Club on the July 23-24 weekend as the Club hosted their annual Club Championship.

72-year old Monty Raine came within two strokes of shooting his age as he took the first round lead with a 74. While Junior Champion Jake Greening was one stroke back with an opening round 75.

Only two other golfers managed to break 80 that day. Keremeos Senior golfer Dave Hoffman put together one of his best rounds of his life shooting a 78 and defending Champion Clint Clifton one stroke back with a 79.

Sunday the stage was set as the four golfers breaking 80 would be paired up. After the front was completed it was obvious it was going to be a two man show.

Clifton and Hoffman never found their groove and soon fell out of reach while other golfers made minor changes (like Ryan O'Neal's 2-under par 70) more would catch the battle between Raine and Greening.

After 15 holes the two were deadlocked but by the time the smoke had cleared youth prevailed and Jake Greening became the 2005 Club Champion with back to back 75s while Raine put up a gallant effort with rounds of 74 and 80.

Congratulations, Jake! Greening will be one of many local golfers competing in the Princeton Open on August 13th and 14th.
