POSSE NEWS FROM THE CORRAL
- submitted by Kevin Robillard
It may be 30 degrees outside but the 4th season for the Princeton Posse Jr. B Hockey club is underway. The Posse are pleased to announce that forward Cody Devitt (#29) was signed by the BCHL's Salmon Arm Silverbacks in late May.
Cody was affiliated with Salmon Arm late in the season and was called up after the Posse season ended. Cody played a number of regular season games and saw plenty of ice time for the "Backs" during their playoff run.
In addition to Devitt, a number of players were asked to attend training camps for Jr. A and WHL teams. Forward Brandon Ingraham was signed by the Quesnel Millionaires, goaltender Brad Fraser (#35) is heading to the Yorkton Terriers of the SJHL, Tony Johnston (#1) is also heading to the prairies with an invite to the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors.
Brad Davis (#8) is attending the Swift Current Bronco's camp. #7 Scott Jackson will be heading to a WHL camp closer to home, Cranbrook's Kooteney Ice. Assistant captain Seth Armitage (#18) will be trying out in Calgary for an Alberta junior Hockey League team.
The coaching staff, lead by returning head coach Dale Hladun, have been busy on the recruiting trail. Dale and the Posse's assistant coaches, Peter McDonald and Kevin Robillard, have seen many young prospects already this season. In addition to a number of camps in BC (Salmon Arm, Cowichan, Penticton), the coaching staff have looked at player across the prairies as well. The list of prospects this season could include players from as far away as the Maritimes and California.
Training camp is scheduled for August 30, 31 and September 1. The staff is anticipating 45 to 60 players in camp. Numbers are down across BC due to the new rules limiting all Jr B team to only 2 16 year old players (born 1989) and no 15 year olds. The first home exhibition game is scheduled for September 3 vs the Sicamous Eagles. The second home exhibition game is scheduled for September 6.
