HEUSER MEMORIAL CAMP SET FOR AUGUST
The 6th annual Aaron Heuser Memorial Basketball Camp is set for August 9th to 11th with Jesse McLean returning to Princeton to instruct the three day clinic.
The clinic is again free to all participants thanks to the money raised 6 years ago.
To ensure a great camp, further sponsorship came from local business and support groups from the community. Bob Wicks, Stevens and Stevens, Billy's Restaurant, Pharmasave, the Green Party of BC and the Royal Canadian Legion all made donations to this year's camp to help offset some of the costs.
"I am looking forward to returning to my hometown to run this camp. It of course has special meaning for me as Aaron was a very good friend of mine and I helped with the Memorial fund after he passed away."
McLean currently teaches at an alternate school in Drumheller, Alberta, where he also coaches the local high school senior boys basketball team, runs a spring basketball league, coaches a travelling club basketball team and runs summer basketball camps.
"I spend a lot of my free time coaching basketball in Drumheller. The sport was not very popular and the local teams were not very successful when I got there and along with some other enthusiastic coaches we are trying to change that."
"This will be my seventh camp and the third camp I run this summer. As our basketball group, Badlands Basketball, has grown we have added a lot to our coaching and our camps that I hope to bring to Princeton. I hope the kids will learn a lot and enjoy their time with us."
Adrea McLean, last season's PSS Senior Girls basketball coach and Jesse's sister will help coach the upcoming camp.
"Adrea is very enthusiastic about coaching basketball and she is always trying to learn new ways to improve her coaching and I am glad she will be involved."
To register for this free camp, students must contact Alisdair Reid at Princeton Summer Recreation 295-7222 to get their name on the list. The camp is limited to the first 24 registrations so hurry and call.
