LOCAL GOLFERS HIT THE ROAD
A total of 225 golfers from southern BC and the US, including four locals converged on the scenic Christina Lake Golf Course north of Grand Forks.
All were vying for the right to have their name engraved on the coveted J. B. Goffinet Memorial Trophy.
Clint Clifton, Ryan O'Neil, Glenn Weissbach and Bob Wicks were the four local golfers involved in this annual Father's Day weekend event.
Heavy rains hampered play Saturday but didn't dampen the spirits. Sunday weather improved enough to see the real beauty of this championship golf course in its pristine location.
When the smoke had cleared seven time winner Kent Brown of Colville, Washington emerged victorious with rounds of 70 and 72 for a 2-under par 142 total.
Princeton's own Clint Clifton gave valiant effort but could only close to within 4 strokes to take third while Glenn Weissbach put together twin 80's and Ryan O'Neil back to back 81's to place in the middle of the Championship Flight. Bob Wicks had a strong first day in his flight but didn't fair as well on Sunday, still put respectable net rounds of 71 and 77.
Clifton also won the Putting Competition for the third consecutive year.
If you golf and you're going through the Kootenays, this is a definite golfing destination.
CYCLING TEAM BRINGS MOTIVATION
The journey itinerary is impressive: a bicycling tour from Victoria to St. John's in 74 days (20 of them designated as rest days).Covering a distance of 7,690 kilometres at an average rate of 139.8 kilometres per day.
Think it can be done? The 'Unleash Your Potential' cycling team left Victoria on June 17th, passed through Princeton on June 20th and should be in Lake Louise by the time you read this.
The whole point of the tour is explained quite simply. Unleash Your Potential is an original awareness campaign designed to motivate Canadians to integrate physical activity, proper nutrition, and stress management into daily life.
Five chiropractic students are cycling across Canada this Summer to deliver this message at a series of interactive educational events.
What an amazing way to deliver a message!
The team includes Kristian Dorken, who was raised in Victoria. He is a second year chiropractic student in Toronto.
Lorenza Aldea was born, raised and educated in Toronto. She is currently a second year student at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto.
Ali Amiri was born in Iran and raised in Vancouver. His many interests lead him to enter the chiropractic profession.
Katrin Grenacher was born and raised in Switzerland. She studied medicine for two years at the University of Berne before deciding to study Chiropractic in Toronto.
The last member of the team is Jody Freedman who was born in California and raised in Winnipeg. He first completed a Bachelor of Science degree at University of Winnipeg then went to Toronto's CMCC to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.
The group were hosted at the home of Duane Drobot while in Princeton.
