REBEL GIRLS WIN FIRST TOURNEY

Creston Valley Thunder Cats gave Princeton's Posse a real challenging 60-minutes of hockey

The Princeton Secondary School Senior Girls Volleyball team traveled to Kamloops for their first tournament on September 23 and 24.

After three games of round robin play the girls were in first place. They defeated 100 Mile House, lost to Barriere by one point in a hard fought battle and then went on to defeat the host team, St. Ann's Academy.

This put all four teams with one loss and two wins. The placing went to points for and against and Princeton came well ahead of the other three teams.

In the semi-final game the girls were once again up against St. Ann's Academy. St. Ann's was looking for the win against the hometown crowd, each team took one set and it looked as if St. Ann's would take the tiebreaker as Princeton was down 9-2 (third game goes to 15).

Coach Carol Skinner managed to keep the girls focused and they went on to defeat St. Ann's Academy 15-12. This put Princeton in the finals against Clearwater.

After much excitement the girls settled down and went on to defeat Clearwater in two sets. A first place finish for the Princeton Rebels!

The girls hosted Osoyoos and Keremeos on Wednesday, September 28th. Princeton defeated Osoyoos in three sets and Keremeos in two. A great start to the season for the Senior Girls Volleyball team. Next home game is October 26th at 5:00 PM.

Creston Valley Thunder Cats gave Princeton's Posse a real challenging 60-minutes of hockey

THUNDERCATS MAUL POSSE

It took a total of 54-seconds into Saturday night's game for Creston to score their first goal - a powerplay goal shortly after Princeton's Chad Randle was called for high-sticking.

The balance of the period was quick and physical with a number of missed scoring opportunities, partly due to players being out of position.

A scuffle in front of the Creston goal at 16:41 sent three Posse players and two Thunder Cats to the penalty box, mostly with roughing after the whistle penalties.

It was at about this time the officials could no longer hide their confusion calling back players and switching players serving penalties. It was clear that they were no longer sure of who was doing what on ice.

Once play resumed action was high-spirited until Creston slipped another one past Princetonšs Brad Fraser with 1:23 left.

Creston led 2 to 0 after one.

The Second Period saw Creston slam two more home at 2:57 and 4:32 into the frame.

Princeton finally managed to score their first goal at 7:04 when David Wyman found his target, with assists from Cody Devitt and Jessie Tresierra.

Two minutes later, at 9:20, Princeton added another from Chad Randle (assisted by Dave Wyman).

The period featured end-to-end action even though the officials continued to flub calls.

Creston had a two-man advantage 12-minutes into the period, but Princetonšs penalty killing unit was able to hold the Cats at bay.

Creston did score two more goals, though. One at 14:17 and another at 15:23.

Frustration levels climbed and started to show on ice and behind the Posse bench but cooler heads prevailed.

After two periods, Creston was leading 6 to 2.

The Third period saw more net-to-net action with Princeton scoring goal #3 at 1:05 into the frame.

Zach Big Swan got the credit with Chad Randle earning an assist.

Creston added another goal 50-seconds later.

Princeton scored what could have been Goal #4 at 6:46 but it was waved off and Cody Devitt earned a goalie interference penalty.

It was the second such infraction called during the game which saw Princeton pressuring the Creston goalie throughout the game.

Princeton had another goal waved off at 12:28 with Devitt again blamed for the incident with an interference penalty and game misconduct.

Final score: Creston 7, Princeton 3. Princeton outshot Creston in the first two periods 28 to 11 (Third Period stats unavailable).

Despite the score, both teams were kept in the game by goaltenders making incredible saves and not giving up many rebounds.
