POSSE TAKE OSOYOOS IN OVERTIME

Hockey action Saturday night when Princeton Posse hosted Osoyoos Storm

It became obvious in the last ten days that in order for Princeton to win games they had to do two things: shoot the puck at the net and stay out of the penalty box.

Saturday night's match against Osoyoos Storm was an example of how well the Posse can play and the results they can produce when following those two very simple guidelines.

Although Osoyoos opening the game with a goal 2:55 into the period and another with 1:13 left in the period, the shots on goal told the tale: 15 for Princeton and 14 for Osoyoos.

The entire game appeared to be a solid contest with both sides evenly matched through each period.

The second period saw Princeton bring the score to within one with their first goal of the contest at 4:59. Jarrett Pretty Young Man got the credit with assists going to Mike Salter and Stu Purves.

Osoyoos replied with their third goal at 8:08.

Princeton came back at 9:45 with a goal from Peter Purves. He was assisted by Stu Purves and Jarrett Pretty Young Man. This goal not only put some extra life into the Posse, but pretty much pulled the crowd back into the game.

The period ended with Osoyoos leading 3 to 2. Shots on goal were 18 for Osoyoos and 11 for Princeton.

The third period saw an intense Posse leap into action with a tying goal by David Wyman 35-seconds into the frame. The power play goal was made possible with assists from Chad Hohmann and Jessie Tresseirra.

Osoyoos came back strong and scored their go ahead goal at 2:37.

The Posse once again fired all cylinders and tied the match at 4-all at 5:57. Chad Randle got the goal with assists from Chad Hohmann and David Wyman.

This goal not only put the team into overdrive, it turned the crowd up another notch and they were rewarded for their dedication with Princeton scoring their go ahead goal at 9:39 when David Wyman floated one past the Osoyoos netminder in light traffic.

Assists went to Chad Hohmann and Zach Big Swan.

Osoyoos tried frantically to tie the game at 5 apiece and finally chose to pull their goalie with 1:30 left for the extra man. The move just about backfired when Princeton narrowly missed an empty net goal shot from deep within their own zone.

Osoyoos called a time out with 1:10 left and was able to tie the match with the extra man with just over a minute remaining in the period.

The Storm goalie went back out to finish the period and the game ended tied at 5 after 60-minutes of regulation time.

Shots on goal saw 17 for Princeton and 9 for Osoyoos bringing the total for the game to 43 for Princeton and 41 for Osoyoos.

Penalties were a rarity in the game with Princeton only drawing two, both in the second period, for a total of 4-minutes. Osoyoos had six penalties totalling 12-minutes. There were no penalties called during the third period.

The overtime period saw both teams strong and physical until Princeton's Chad Hohmann ended the match with a goal 2:24 into the frame.

Assists went to Peter Purves and Chad Randle.

Following the match, the Posse gathered at centre ice and saluted their fans with a group slap of sticks on ice.

Princeton took the match by staying out of the penalty box and shooting at the net.
